Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty

I understand that many people struggle with the size or shape of their nose, or have issues with obstructed breathing. Rhinoplasty can change the shape of a nose so that breathing becomes easier — and the nose can be altered into a more desirable shape. Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. It can make your nose bigger or smaller, change the shape of the tip or the rise of the bridge, make your nostrils smaller, change the angle of your nose, or correct a birth defect or injury. As a highly regarded plastic surgeon, Dr. Farrokhi strives to achieve a natural look that suits your face; one where people won’t necessarily notice you’ve had surgery, just realize you look better.

Dr. Farrokhi makes incisions inside the nostrils, and occasionally on the skin between the nostrils.

He separates the skin from the bone and cartilage, sculpts it into the desired shape, and then re-drapes the skin. When your nose has been reshaped, I suture the cartilage and skin into place, packs both nostrils with gauze, and applies a splint to help your nose maintain its new shape. The surgery is usually less than two hours, though complicated procedures may take longer. Right after surgery you may feel sore or may have a headache. Dr.Farrokhi will prescribe medication to relieve your discomfort.

Stay in bed with your head elevated for the first 24 hours.

After 48 hours, I will remove the packing, and the split can come off after a week. You may experience a little bleeding or stuffiness – this is common. Don’t rub or blow your nose for the first week, and be gentle when you wash your face.

The swelling and bruising around your eyes should disappear after a couple of weeks.

You should be able to get back to your normal activities after a week or so, but make sure you avoid strenuous activity for six weeks after your surgery.

Healing is slow and gradual – you may notice some very minor swelling for quite some time, and the final results may take up to a year.

Complication Of Rhinoplasty:

In general, the complication of rhinoplasty is not too much, but these complications could be serious. The most common is unsatisfaction of patients of their nose shape. Sometimes these complications are due to unrealistic expectation of patients and sometimes these are realistic. For example, the nasolabial is not good. Breathing difficulty is another complication and is most serious one. That should be addressed during operation. Scars of alar especially in dark skin patient could be a major complaint. Deviated nose after surgery is another complication. The rate of rhinoplasty complication even in the hand of most experienced surgeons is about 3 to 5 %.
